Orders

If your order is for prescription glasses, we will need a copy of your current prescription, which you can upload with your order. We will also need some measurements such as your pupillary distance measurement (PD). If you don’t already have that, our opticians can measure it remotely. The pupillary distance is the distance measured in millimeters between the center of the pupils of the eyes, and helps us properly place the optical center of the lens in the right place in your frame.

You can email us by replying to the order confirmation you received with any changes or adjustments. You can also call us at (619) 500-3227, option 7.

Status updates are emailed and / or texted to you, but you can also get in touch by replying to your order confirmation email or by calling us at (619) 500-3227, option 7 to check in.

Our selection is much larger than what we show online and so often, we may have something available that you are not finding on our website. The best way to check on the availability of a frame you are not finding is by contacting us on our contact page, and letting us know which frame you are interested in.

PRESCRIPTIONS

- You can submit your prescription by uploading it during the ordering process. If you do not have it, you can have your eye doctor send it to us directly by emailing it to shop@alexanderdaas.com or faxing it to (323) 433-9172.

- We'll also need your pupillary distance (PD). If your eye doctor did not provide this measurement, our opticians can measure you remotely.

We have a special method to take these measurements. You can start with your pupillary distance measurements here and your OC / seg height measurements here. Our opticians will guide you through the process and let you know which ones are necessary.

You can receive a new prescription by making an appointment with an optometrist or ophthalmologist. If you are in the San Francisco or Los Angeles areas, we have Independent Optometrists on-site at those stores. The refraction portion of the exam is to obtain a prescription. The prescriptions are usually valid for 1-2 years depending on the state you are in and your doctor policies. If you have had an eye exam within 1-2 years, you can check with your eye doctor to see if it is valid and have them send it directly to us by emailing it to shop@alexanderdaas.com or faxing it to (323) 433-9172.

Lenses

Materials

     • CR39 Plastic lenses – Basic lenses with excellent acuity.

     • Polycarbonate lenses – For a slightly heavier prescription, this is a thinner and lighter option. It is also impact resistant making it great for sports for safety reason. It is also the required lens for children and young adults under 18.

     • 1.67 High Index lenses – For heavy prescriptions, this lens will be much thinner and lighter.

     • 1.74 High Index lenses -  The thinnest and lightest lens on the market.

Anti-Reflective Coating (AR) – AR coating prevents glare and increases the acuity of the lens. Ours is so advanced, it has a 2-year warranty against surface defects and minor scratches.

Blue Blocking – Blue light filtering lenses protect your eyes from the damaging HEV light emitted from your iPhones, iPads, PDAs, and computer screens.

Transitions – These lenses react to UV by getting darker, which means you cano enjoy the convenience of going in and out without having to alternate between eyeglasses and sunglasses – the lenses will adjust by getting clearer and darker on their own.

Polarized lenses – the sunglass lenses cut glare by blocking reflecting light bouncing off of surfaces; a great choice for optimized sunglass performance.

Progressive and multifocal lenses – These lenses have multiple prescriptions built into the lens so you can see your distance, reading and everything in between.

Our opticians are always available and happy to make recommendations for your lens selection. We also always review submitted orders and will contact you if we have any recommendations for changes based on your prescription, measurements or frame choice.

With your purchase, you will receive our lens cloths and lens cleaning solution. Try to always use this to properly take care of your sunglasses and eyeglasses. If you do not have these available, you can use material that is 100% cotton. Avoid toilet paper, paper towels, or any other fibrous wipes. A drop of dishwashing soap in water will make a perfect homemade solution – just don’t use alcohol.

Contact us by email or call (619) 500-3227, option 7 to speak to one of our opticians. They will help troubleshoot the situation and perhaps refer you back to have your eye doctor re-examine you. We warranty your lenses for a prescription change or any other non-adapt issues for 90 days and will replace them, on us.

Fit

For eyeglasses, a key thing to look for is that your eyes are centered in the middle of the lenses. Vertically, your eyes should sit somewhere between centered to ¾ of the way up. Our opticians and stylists can consult you in your frame selection before your order as well as when you receive your frames to try on. Contact us by email or call us at (619) 500-3227, option 7.

Usually, the frame measurements will be located on the inside of one of your temples (arms). They will read something similar to 48□17-140. The first number is the width of the lens, the second number is the distance between the lenses (bridge size), and the third number is the temple length.

Take them in to your local optical store – opticians usually provide complimentary adjustments. Contact us if you need a recommendation in your area.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING AND HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTS

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), widely referred to as Flex Dollars, are eligible to be used towards prescription eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses on AlexanderDaas.com or in our stores in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

FSAs are plans implemented by employers that allow employees to pay for medical related expenses with tax free dollars pulled out of their paychecks. This includes visual necessities as well as other general medical necessities.

Potentially, thousands of dollars are sitting in your FSA waiting to be spent or else reabsorbed into your employers’ bank accounts if left untouched before their expiration date. Flex Dollars expiration dates are based on the employers tax year, and since most companies are on the calendar year, December 31st is the most common expiration date.

When your deadline quickly approaches, it’s a great time to start thinking about where you want those dollars to go. Since the money is pulled out of paychecks before taxes, they accumulate tax free, but they are far from free of charge. No one likes to throw away their hard earned cash, and if you don’t spend your flex dollars, that’s exactly what you’re doing.

Understandably, situations change.... Maybe you had medication that you took and you don’t anymore, maybe you were being cautious in case a medical emergency arose but nothing unusual happened this year, or maybe your spouse/partner had enough in theirs to cover both of your expenses and now you’re left with the burden of spending all of your flex dollars, last minute! The reasons for the leftover dollars are countless, but the ultimate situation is the same for each person: a need to spend what’s left, and quickly.

The money is only available for medical necessities so places available to spend are quite limited, and there are only so many bottles of Tylenol necessary in a year. Regardless of the situation, right now is a great time to use that money to treat yourself to sensational vision with a new pair of prescription eyeglasses and/or prescription sunglasses. Vision is a vital necessity that many people overlook or don’t realize is covered by their FSA, but as long as glasses are made with prescription lenses, they’re considered a medical device.
